The Watts Grove people all have a heart for caring for God's people by ministering His people through His Word. 

Bio: Minister Malachi D. Thompson

Assistant Pastor

 

Minister Malachi D. Thompson is a native of Charlotte, North Carolina. He is the middle child of Keyetta Dae. Minister Thompson strives to ensure that he consistently works to build the kingdom by speaking life into his generation.

 

He is being educated in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System. Currently attending West Charlotte High School. He is being used in many leadership capacities such as Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools Youth Council as Vice-President of Membership and Education 2020 & elected Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools Youth Council President in May of  2022 through 2024, becoming the longest-running presidential candidate, West Charlotte's Student Government Association Student Advisory Council President & Royal Court Student Advisor & Prom Chair, and West Charlotte High Schools Student Government Association Executive President. Malachi serves on the Charlotte Mecklenburg Board Of Education Youth Advisory Council, Mentor to Young Black Boys through K-9th Graders, and has been a regular featuring Civic Leader on the Charlotte Observer advocating for equity in the classrooms, and is the 2023-2024 Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools Board of Education Student Advisor. Thompson is also deeply involved in the United Missionary Baptist Association-Charlotte working in various departments, Minister Thompson is the proud leader of the UMBA Media & Technology Team.

 

Under the impeccable leadership of his great-grandmother, mentor, and Pastor, Reverend Dr. Betty J. Erwin, Thompson serves as Assistant Pastor of Watts Grove Missionary Baptist Church. As the Lord moved him to go further into the ministry he has served in many ministry capacities such as Ushers Ministry, Youth Ministry, Leader of the Media and Technology Ministry, Pastors Aid, Praise & Worship Team, and more. He accepted the call to preach the gospel and was licensed on July 10th, 2022 at Watts Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Monroe NC at the age of 16 years old. He continues to use his gift as he preaches and sings the good news of Jesus Christ.

 

While Minister Thompson is mostly known for his preaching ministry and civic leadership, those closest to him know that he values quality time with family and friends, is a committed student of theology and politics, and believes in the importance of having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

 

His favorite scripture is "Behold, I will do a new thing; it shall come to light quickly; shall ye not know it? I will again make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert."

Bio: Minister Micah D. Thompson

Youth Pastor

 

Minister Micah D. Thompson is a native of Charlotte, North Carolina. He is the youngest son of Keyetta Dae and great-grandson of Reverend Dr. Betty J. Erwin. Minister Thompson strives to impact his generation through his gift to the Fine Arts Department.

 

He is being educated in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System. He is currently attending West Charlotte High School. He is the 2021-2022 Mr. Sophomore for West Charlotte High School, he's on the Chorus Choir and served as Royal Court Representative for the Student Government Association, a member of West Charlotte's Fine Arts Department working in various departments. Micah is also deeply involved in the United Missionary Baptist Association-Charlotte working in various departments, Thompson serves as the Co-Leader of the UMBA Mime and Liturgical Division and currently serves as the 2023-2024 Mr. West Charlotte.

 

He accepted the call to preach the gospel and was licensed on July 10th, 2022 at Watts Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Monroe NC. He continues to use his gift through dance, speaking, and singing the good news of Jesus Christ.

 

While everyone knows him by his ministry through dance, Minister Micah is mostly known for his humility and kindness. As a proud son of Watts Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Minister Micah serves as the New Nations Youth Pastor which was founded by his late grandmother and Youth Pastor Emerita Reverend Wanda E. Dae. 

 

His favorite scripture is "This is my command to be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord, your God is with you wherever you go.”
